Change Team:
Tyker Lax Season Outlook

Hi everyone,

Here is more information about our team as we get started.

As I mentioned in previous emails, we will play on Sundays and that schedule should be posted on the website in a couple of weeks. We will have two practices a week. This week the practices are Tuesday and Friday on the turf at Tucker. We will likely keep the same schedule next week. Eventually, the Friday practice will move to Wednesday (or maybe Thursday). I'll poll you for input next week after we get a feel for the team.

These are my goals for the team for the season in order of importance:
  1. Be good teammates
  2. Have fun
  3. Improve at lacrosse
  4. Win games
By the time Memorial Day rolls around, if the boys got better, are more confident on the field, and don't want the season to end, that would be a successful season. Everything on top of that is gravy.

I have two very important rules for the start of the season:
  1. Everyone must carry their own equipment to the field (starting today)
  2. Everyone must put their equipment on by themselves (by the first game)
We will let the getting dressed thing slide until the first game. The coaches are always available to help with equipment too. We just want to get them to do it themselves as much as they can. We can show them the little tricks and they will pick it up fast. In a few years, when you see the occasional mom or dad caddying big lacrosse bags around and getting their pre-teen dressed on the sidelines, you will cringe!

I'll see everyone tonight, at 6:00 on the Turf at Tucker Field.

Go Bulldogs!

Jared

PS - Please double check your equipment before you leave for practice. Everyone needs a stick, helmet, mouthpiece, gloves, arm pads, and shoulder pads. A cup is required for anyone playing goalie and wearing a cup is also a good habit for all the boys to start young, in my opinion. Everyone also needs a waterbottle. Any water bottle is fine, but if you need to buy an new one, get one with a straw so they can get a drink without taking off their helmet.

Welcome to Tyker Lax 2020 Team Marmen
Hi Bulldogs,

Here is the preliminary information about the upcoming season. My name is Jared Marmen and I'm coaching your son's team along with few great assistant coaches. Tyker lacrosse is a lot of fun and we are excited!

You should be able to log into the website now and see our team page.

We will have practice scheduled twice a week on Wednesday and Friday beginning March 8th. All of the coaches are also assistant coaches for other teams and I am attempting to make our practice schedules line up. Please be prepared for the location, and potentialy the times, of our pracitices to change. The website is always the authoritative source on when and where we are practicing.

We will practice on the turf at Tucker Field on Fridays until early April when that practice will be moved to Ewing St. Right now, I have our Wednesday practice scheduled for 7:00 to 8:30 under the lights on the grass at Lower Tucker field so that Wyatt and I can have a double practice one night (and potentialy get one night off a week!). It overlaps the 2028 team practice by 30 minutes. I'm going to see how that goes for a few weeks.

We are playing in the HARCO Lacrosse Leauge. There is a meeting next week to finalize the details of the league. I will post the schedule as soon as I get it. I expect that our games will be on Sundays in Harford County, 8 vs. 8, with regular size goals and goalies, on a field about 75% the size of a regulation field.

Practices and games at this age go much more smoothly with three or four coaches. At practice, we will use small groups where everyone is moving and getting lots of touches as much as possible. Michael Jackson and Wyatt Shifflet are already onboard to help coach the team when they can, but we could use two or three more assistant coaches at this age. None of us will be able to make it to every practice. If you would like to help too, please send me an email. There are a couple of dad's of players on our team that know the game very well and I will be hounding them until they give in and help out too. You don't need to know anything about lacrosse to be a good assistant coach at this age. A lot of it is just individualy translating what was said into something a particular boy can understand and making them stay behind a cone until it is their turn.

Anyone that steps onto a practice or game field has to have a background check and BARC ID badge. The process to get one is fairly painless but necessary.

If you have any questions, comments, or ideas, please send me an email.

Thanks!

Jared
